01

Identify the contact

Record the caller’s name, company, claim number and whom the company represents. If you are uncertain who is calling, confirm through the insurer’s published contact channel before sharing sensitive information.

  • Name and company
  • Claim number and represented party
  • Date, time and contact method
02

Log each request and response

Write down what the insurer asked for and what you said or sent. Keep copies of forms, letters and emails. A dated log makes later follow-up easier and reduces reliance on memory.

  • Exact document or information requested
  • Response and date sent
  • Any stated next step or deadline
03

Review documents before signing

Ask what a release, authorization or proposed settlement would cover. If you are unsure of the effect, seek advice from a qualified lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction before signing.

04

Know where to seek help with claim handling

If you cannot resolve a concern with an insurer, your state insurance department may provide consumer assistance. A complaint process does not replace legal advice about a potential injury claim.
